Vacation Cove released
This is to announce that my Vacation Cove Episode is completed. Vacation Cove is a short episode of 7 regular maps and 1 secret level designed to be played with Eduke32 and the Atomic edition of Duke3d. The screen shots attached to this announcement are ment to generate an interest for my project and are not intended to invite critiques of the screen shot themselves. The basic theme to Vacation Cove is that Duke goes to a Caribbean Island for some much needed R&R.

Nice use of sprites, especially the bridge sprite. Looks neat, I'll try it sometime today...

Jawsome screens, this looks pretty sweet. I'll have to dl and play later. The only thing I see that is weird is that the sky in the 3rd Screenshot is black.

Other than that looks kinda like when I was in L.A. last week. Kudos!

I tried it with HRP and sd_duke and it works. It looks great

I also tested it with HRP and Duke Plus. It works well too

At least it seems to work ok.

I think that you should mention this.

Just a question: What is he TILES012.art ? Is it the picture in the main menu with the trees? When I use the HRP this picture is no more, it is replaced by HRP picture.

The original Duke3D art is stored in Tiles###.art files. The Group file normally contains these, but when you drop a filename in the Duke3D folder with the same name as one in the group file, it gains priority and is loaded instead of the GRP version.

In short: TILES012.ART isn't just the background, it contains a number of sprites.

Rider thanks, I thought so. Ok I have tested it extensively it seems working with DukePlus. After all it has only DEFS.con and USER.con and TILES012.ART , TILES014.ART and TILES015.ART which they are not included in DukePlus. Or DukePlus do not overwrite any of these files. When the HRP is enabled probably the TILES012.ART is overwritten.

I just started level 4. I found the secret level too. IMO so far it's as good, if not better than Duke Caribbean: Life's A Beach. I'm just missing the beach bunnies and the funny outfits.

That's a known avatar at many forums lol. It's also pretty funny.

Oh and I also played your Cove a bit. Didn't have any problems with DP though.

This recommendation persuaded me to download it (I don't normally play games, much less download mods for Duke). I'll check it out later.

Thanks for all the possitive feedback. I'm glad to hear that there were no problems running other mods while playing my episode.

Your installation instructions tell people to extract the contents of the zip, but your .bat file loads the .zip, so no extraction is necessary.

HUH? I don't think I understand what you're trying to say. You have to unzip the vcove.zip file into the installation directory. The bat file from the vcove.zip loads the cove.zip file so there's no need to unzip the cove.zip as per my instructions .

"Unzip the vcove.zip into the folder of a clean installation of Duke3d 1.5 (Atomic) and EDuke32.The EDuke32 port is needed because some of the maps in this episode exceeds the original sector and wall limits. Do not unzip the cove.zip, leave it intact within the installation directory."

When I posted that, I had forgotten that you had a zip inside of another zip.

I started playing the episode, by the way. I'm really enjoying it so far, although it seems like the levels have been made long through the use of a lot of copying and pasting (not surprising considering how much you made in so short a time). I'll have more to say when I get more time to play it.
