Not so much a demo as a first announcement. The picture on valve definitely gave me life.

The picture on Valve's site was a photoshop someone made. It was a prank... new sites "discovered" the image on a forum. How many times must this be said?

They can't without a development team. However in Duke Forever's case I believe it may have been pretty much close to done when the dev team got laid off, so they may have been about to put it out before T2 got all puffy-faced and dropped the sue hammer. Yes, it is a nice surprise and I'm very happy. But, I'm a realist.. and we still know little to nothing. So, until some official information surfaces from George or Scott... I'm going to proceed as I always have.

maybe. But with one boss level completely finished, my bet is they'll finish it. Just wondering if it'll be soon, or another 13 years

This game has been talked about for just about 13 years. How many more years is needed until they can just ANNOUNCE it. I have a gut feeling that it will be atleast announced at E3. Maybe no clip to show off. Just like how James Cameron unveiled Avatar last year.

well... i thought they already announced it, and had a release date, back in 2000 or something. and then they canceled it. Lol this crap is so funny, but only because of the fact that no one else exept the last splinter cell game has taken so long. Technology is a pain though, I can see something like this taking awhile. I don't know about 13 years, but 5 years or , err... something 6 or whatever

at least they won the case by the skin of their teeth, they were teetering away from being sued for their filings

and honestly who's right or wrong doesn't matter at this point. take two is real cold to do that. That is just wrong. I come on here just for fun. But I would hope not to bring anyone down by my attitude. I understand fully well that right being right and wrong being wrong, this case was in the middle of who was supposed to do what. but there IS NO RIGHT WAY TO cut someone off and then just straight up DROP people into a hundred million debt or whatever hoping them to pay that off when they have no money

party a owes party b twenty dollars, party b says to party a this twenty dollars has turned into 100 million with the interest over the years. party a says to party b, "well, we owe you, but now don't have it," party b says, "i don't care, pay me"

sounds like a line from goodfellas "the restaurant burned down, i don't care, pay me! no customers, i don't care, pay me! and when there was not another dime to come out, pauly burned it down" I mean that is cold

so I hope they understand, I'm just a fan, a customer, nothing more.

take two might as well be ready to start blackmailing people, when money makes someone cold, that's it, they lose their souls over their bank funds and there is nothing else to gain but greed and insanity

anyway, I just hope everyone takes a big whew*, and there we go, maybe broussard still has some spirit left in him, if this whole corporation thing hasn't completely destroyed his soul. I wish the best to everyone, and still have faith, and envy 3d realms for their courage. Sounds corny, but what else is there?

QFT - Vaporware often finally sees the light of day, and until then there will always be the "never gonna release it" crowd.

About 8 years of a general concensus that DNF will "Never" be released.

I will be tickled if the status-quo is wrong,
and if Vaporware is intentionally created to distract consumers and create a release day Buzz - it's a free country - not like the developers took our money or anything - if you pre-ordered it, all I can say is you got what you paid for, read the fine print.

Have a faux nuclear warhead appear in Las Vegas. Countdown timer on the side. Have a faux bomb squad, faux news crew, the works to build up the story. When the counter reaches zero, the warhead opens and the disk for the DNF trailer pops out.

there will at least be a level that is finally finished that we can play. It'll be free to download on live or something. I know for sure, 3d realms releases everything. Haven't you noticed? they are the type of company that won't hold something forever, especially since they know own the rights COMPLETELY

I never said they wouldn't restart. But I do know that there was a settlement, and that could very well mean the game HAS to get released whether GB or SM like it or not. Of course I'm just making a guess as to what the settlement details were so I could be dead wrong, but I honestly think it has something to with getting the game released without any of this restart/engine change crap going on again. If I were T2 I would have settled with 3DR just releasing the game in its current form as long as it was done

the thing is, duke forever looks AT LEAST DECENT. I mean, it's not going to be bad. if you've seen the pics and gameplay, it's like, how BAD could it be. Will it be as good as d3d? I don't know, but it's going to definately have an influence on the game market. If they do a good job with duke forever, then they stay in the market, and who knows what games they might come up with in the future

I say they give the game to 2k marin, as familiar as they are with the engine, the game would be done in like 2 months with only a few things left to complete

By looking at the gameplay footage, it looks like it can definitely be a predecessor to Duke3D. That's all I really want. I'm not expecting the "mother of all FPSs" like everyone else. I just want to shoot aliens as Duke again.

No, he didn't "wait" for technology... He changed the technology over the course of actually creating the film. In those last years it was filming more than writing and creating, but it's not like he wrote it in 1994 and took a 10 year break.

In a way it does seem to parallel 3DRealms as he was always grasping for the latest equipment - looking to have the best 3D technology - Cameron's technology, including "Simulcam" is referred to as his own creation and "A series of upgrades" to CGI rendering over the many years that he had worked on it.

Not the same. Cameron wouldn't make the movie until the technology was there. 3DR already had things but when technology jumped ahead, they didn't want to play catch up but start over.

Didn't claim it was the same, but there is some parallels. I found it funny how, prior to release, the media went after Cameron for taking so long and squandering his Titanic fortune in trying to make something so remarkable. Critics predicted a mediocre reception. He was accused of having an ego trip.

Did you know that after Avatar two and three (they've set that up, yes), Cameron plans on making a Battle Angel Alita movie. I don't expect much though as it's supposed to be rated PG-13. There's just a lot of feel you get from the manga that you can't pull off without ripping people's brains out and eating them...

They only made two games as developers under the 3DRealms name, those being Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior. They made Duke Nukem 1 and 2 under their real name, Apogee Software.

The point I was making is that anything Apogee has been involved with has kicked ass. It doesn't matter whether they have developed the game directly or not. I can guarantee you that MP and Prey wouldn't have been nearly as good without 3DR's involvement.

And Zuljin isn't arguing that. At no point did I see him say "Only the games they developer are good... the ones they produced suck."

3DRealms is a great company, and they have had some amazing influence in the industry. And at this point in time, given the way things have gone... I'd say they make better producers on games than developers.
