Shadow Warrior
The recent announcement drew me back to this one. And, with the recent DX11 update... the game runs SO much better. Before, I could get about 60fps with mostly Ultra settings and Mirrors off. Now, everything maxed and Mirror's on... frame rate is always over 100. Even at times topping over 200.

And... that's why I said "with the recent DX11 update the game runs so much better"...
I know why it runs better. I was simply stating that it does, in fact, have an effect. Plenty of other developers release such "updates" they say will improve the games performance, only for them not to. Where as, this one actually makes a huge impact.

FarCry 4. Great game. Brings back the same fantastic gameplay in a new interesting setting.
IMO the 3rd is slightly better, mostly because I expected more fresh new ideas for the 4th installment. |

I miss the days when people put their system specs in their sigs. I'd like to know what kind of rigs burn through FC4 and GTAV with no problems.
I liked Contract JACK for the space levels alone. They just looked great. Been playing Mother (Earthbound Zero/Beginnings). |

Re: What was the last game you played: New Era
Splinter Cell: Double Agent (Xbox)
This is supposed to be the superior version of the game. The XB/PS2/GC game was made by Team Montreal (Ubisoft's "A" team), while the PC/360/PS3 game was made by the Chinese branch. A look through the various faqs confirms that they are significatly different. The missions play out differently and the story is somewhat modified. With the Xbox being substantially better than PS2 and GC, this game is supposed to be the absolute best version of Double Agent. However... I really didn't like it. A highly concise review could be written like this: Reload.Reload.Reload.Reload.Reload.Reload.Reload.R eload.Reload.Reload.Reload.Reload.Reload.Reload.Re load.Reload.Reload.Reload.Reload.Reload.Reload.Rel oad.Reload.Reload. *I'm no SC rookie, so I know how to carefully pick my way through missions with Sam. But there were a lot of cheap "gotcha" moments in this game where you were guaranteed to fail the first time you encounter them. And often I had to redo a tiny section (a single hallway, for example) a dozen times just to get past it. *The wall mines are just broken. You will never kill an enemy with one of those (you'll kill yourself a couple of times, though). *The dumb boss battle at the end introduced a measure of silliness to what had been a serious and well told story. *It might be the same engine as Chaos Theory, but Double Agent looks nowhere near as good as that masterpiece. I'm at a loss to figure that one out. On the positive side, it really is a great story, and would make a great screenplay for a sequel to the upcoming Splinter Cell movie (assuming that will be more of an origin story). Also, it's still Splinter Cell. So that old familiar high tech stealth gameplay is still there. 3/5 |

Batman: Arkham Knight (PC version)
And, despite the outcries of hatred and betrayal among the PC community towards Rocksteady and Warner Bros... I'm in love. Yes, the 30fps cap is disappointing. But, I'm having an incredibly smooth experience. For 30fps it's very smooth, fluid and responsive. My wife didn't believe that it was 30fps until I turned on the fps counter. I've also experienced zero crashes, hangups or glitches. Texture streaming is a bit slow, occasionally seeing textures stream in. But, it's UE3... and it's a fix Rocksteady have said they are working on for the next patch (since they released one today). And, stuttering... I have the rare stutter every great once in a while when driving the batmobile. But, it's maybe one little pause every few minutes. If I ever drive that long. Ultimately, I lucked out. The game is running great. And I'm so happy... because the game is beyond amazing.

I remember the post your rig thread from some years ago. Haven't play FC4 or GTA V on this laptop as I never bought either game for it. But the other games I have run on it fine.

Re: What was the last game you played: New Era
I'm new here (been lurking these forums the past couple of weeks). Looking forward to trying out the Bombshell game.
As for games that I've been playing lately, I recently started playing the PC version of Duke Nukem Forever for the first time, and I'm having a lot of fun with (I originally played it on the Xbox 360 as I was mostly a console player a few years back). I'm on my second playthrough and I'm pretty close to beating it on Damn I'm Good difficulty. After I beat it, I'm going to go through the Doctor Who Cloned Me DLC. DNF has some hilarious parts, but this part especially cracks me up:

This game transitioned to consoles wonderfully. I very much enjoyed it. It was more polished and streamlined than D2 (although I think I liked D2 more overall). 3.5/5 |

Re: What was the last game you played: New Era
Batman: Arkham Knight
Finished it. 27 hours. Absolutely f***ing brilliant. Yes, the PC version has issues. But I don't care. Seriously, this is one of those rare games that is so damn good... the issues honestly faded into the background. Best entry in the series. There are some problems. The Batmobile is overused, and at times... forced upon you. As if Rocksteady were like a small child trying to show of their shiny new toy and kept shoving it in your face. The lack of "true" boss fights was disappointing. And the Arkham Knight... was a letdown. His identity is ungodly easy to figure out, I actually guessed it before I even played the game because, as I told my wife, 'It's the most obvious f******* choice!' And, it was. Also, doesn't help that at one point Rocksteady basically beat you over the head with a hammer with the characters name on it. If you don't figure out who the Knight is at this point... you're not aware you're playing a Batman game. Add on top of that the Knight just isn't that interesting. And a lot of the time (specially later in the game) he just comes across as a whiny kid instead of a real threat. But, Scarecrow is amazing. Truly creepy and unsettling, his redesign is great and it works so damn well. If you're a fan of the Arkham series... seriously. Go. Play it. Now. It deserves it. I can't wait to replay it once I've made my next upgrade and they've released the performance and texture patch.

Bitch be dead. Finally. Been hunting this Uruk Captain for a while now, and he'd either retreat and run away (which he can run really, REALLY fast) or I'd get overwhelmed with regular Orcs or another Captain and he's slip away while I was busy. Not this time. Got him all alone... and shoved a knife right through his damn mouth.

Just started playing The Talos Principle for the first time, and it's one of the funnest games I've played in a while. Love the philosophical story-line, and the puzzles are clever and challenging. I'm currently trying to collect all of the hidden star sigils. Once again serious props to Croteam.

Re: What was the last game you played: New Era
Batman Begins (Xbox)
An interesting game. It's like a proto-Arkham. While it wasn't made by Rocksteady, I have to believe that they were inspired by the design of this game. It's mission based and very linear, in contrast to the open world of the Arkham games. But it has a nice brawling system and a "fear" gameplay mechanic that is a clever idea (even though it doesn't always work). Also in the game's favor, it's based on the movie, yet it doesn't follow the events of the movie. A little hard to explain if you haven't played it. It's the same story, and it reaches the same conclusion, but it gets there through different scenes. Finally, they nailed the Batmobile sections. You only get to drive it twice, but it's like using the Tumbler in Burnout. This should have been used much more. Bad points: The Fear mechanic is often just an obvious gimmick, very much like a context-sensitive "Continue Game?" prompt. Because you literally cannot pass certain areas without first activating the fear mechanic to make enemies drop their guns. Guns are 100% lethal to this Batman. There is an AI glitch in one level (doesn't seem to be in the PS2 version) where you literally can't do anything without making a sound that scares away a Helicopter Pilot, causing you to fail the mission. I could be two rooms away and just walking would cause his cutscene to commence and fail the mission. I replayed this many times before having to just start the mission over. That seemed to fix it. Finally, this game came out late in the Xbox's life. It should have had much better graphics than it does. It's barely better than the PS2 version. Not bad if you pick it up cheap. 2.5/5 |

Assassin's Creed Unity - still trying to beat it. I am up to sequence 9 or 10 i think. Somehow i jumped to 13 the Dead Kings DLC, after i beat a mission in 9 or 10 and tried to fast travel to my base. I'm not sure how far along i am in the DLC, but probably 40-50% done. i'm about 60% done with the game overall last time i checked, mostly just need to do the main quests.

That's like saying water is better then ice water.
Personally, I prefer ice water... and I prefer the CE version. But, in the end... it's still a weak game with awful level design and a boring story.
