Re: Rumor: Borderlands Studio Reviving Duke Nukem Forever
Honestly we could get news before PAX. Randy Pitchford said they just may be able to clarify the situation there. So a news release by Scott Miller or something could take precedence.

Re: Rumor: Borderlands Studio Reviving Duke Nukem Forever
Interesting news indeed. It's even on trade sites like MCV, and they don't report on hokey-pokey stuff. What is even more interesting (if this is not completely bogus, of course) is:
"Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford declined to comment to Kotaku on the matter, indicating that he may be able to better clarify the situation further at this year's Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle." Now, to even suggest something as clarification of the situation clearly points to some involvement. Whether or not it is about Duke Nukem Forever or Duke Begins or something completely different (acquisition of 3D Realms for example) can be discussed. To have George not comment on the situation was expected, but it starting to get a bit weird. George is to the gaming industry what Area 51 is to USA. Anyhow, I'm glad for these news, they were very much needed.

A highly controversial game designer known for some internet flamewars like 10 years ago or so. Including accusations of a faked PhD. He has posted on Scott's blog before for example. In other words it is an industry insider that says it is true. |

Hmmm. Doesn't really lend much credibility to this rumor.

Re: Rumor: Borderlands Studio Reviving Duke Nukem Forever
Gearbox has been my top choice for finishing the game for a long time now. Glad to see it's pretty much confirmed. I'm especially glad that a lot of former 3dr guys are still at Gearbox and are now getting to finish what they started.
Bring it on!

AFAIK Derek Smart has been fairly reliable as an industry insider perhaps as opposed when talking about himself. I don't know.
Edit: A lot? AFAIK they are what? 5 guys? Edit2: I count 6 guys here: http://www.gearboxity.com/component/...ent/Itemid,45/

What many people are missing about the Kotaku blurb is that Take 2 said that they will still distribute the game. Who about... we just wait until PAX. Speculating and getting all excited seems rather pointless until some solid facts emerge.

My self-control is on the edge right now.
I'll wait until PAX, but I am not betting anything at all. I'm counting on it not happening. Better be careful with this, so the shock will be bigger (if it gets to happen, that is)

Definitely not saying that I think all this is true, because given DNF's track record, I wouldn't be surprised if it is just a false rumor, but this certainly is bigger than anything we've seen since the court case went out.

This may very well end up being the first commercial release with a credits roll longer than the actual gameplay itself.

Honestly, as far as Gearbox goes... I'd rather see them spend the time working on their own titles.

Yes.
Or a new Brothers in Arms game (which Randy has hinted at briefly at parties) or Borderlands 2.

Re: Rumor: Borderlands Studio Reviving Duke Nukem Forever
Great news indeed!
to Damien: are you crazy? well, duke has been the epitome of gaming for as long as I can remember...waiting 13 years for a new experience, and this could finally be it! those were all good games, I must coincide with you on that matter, but to want them more than THE Duke Nukem Forever...why, in my mind, that is purely blasphemy! I've been to the point since like 2002 that I have not been truly excited by a new release unless it was involving Duke. kinda sad really, but he is gaming for me...that, and most recently Deadly Premonition...:P Hail to the king baby...right Zach?

IF true, good news.
I am also not very sure about the developers. They havent put out anything resembling Duke, comedy wise, interactive wise, or really unreality wise. I can only concur with a previous poster about IF they are actually completing it, I hope it was 95% done already. |

Re: Rumor: Borderlands Studio Reviving Duke Nukem Forever
Sorry but nobody is going to release a game without a several month (at least) pre-release hype period.
Edit: Personally I would take DNF over just about any game imaginable. But I don't think this(if true) will have any impact on any other Gearbox game other than maybe Duke Begins.
