Help me brainstorm a bit... Wondering about a nice themed episode
I'm actually wanting to write a nice "revival" episode in Duke's chapters, and wondering what to think. Let's say, that Duke has actually been arrested by pig cops five years after he thought he got rid of all the alien scum, and was sent to jail, all weapons removed, and held prisoner by a new wave of aliens that have just taken over the city where Duke lives, and he's forced to take it back, neighborhood by neighborhood. Now, I know that the first level of the episode should take place in the police station where he's locked up, and have to fight his way back from the jail (need to solve a puzzle to escape from the cell, a la Postal 2), and then just like Postal 2, each level will be a new neighborhood, until you reach City Hall, the last level, where the big boss will be in the Mayor's seat, and you have to "rip off his head and $#!+ down his neck" like you did the first time. This sound like a good way to go? I'm looking to make this one overwrite the first episode, probably, maybe the third, haven't decided. Gonna have to think this over. If anyone knows what neighborhoods to consider putting in the middle of the jail and city hall, lemme know. I was thinking maybe a Chinatown, a ghetto neighborhood, maybe downtown offices, maybe a retail district, a red light district of some sort. Anyone know which order I should consider putting things in?

Maybe suburbs also? And, the idea looks simple, I mean, not exciting as it should be, by that, I mean the starting of the story. Pıgcops getting duke to jail..... too simple... and, a man who can beat hundreds of them at once had his ass kicked into a jail? I don't think so. Think about something extraordinary... something unexpected!

It happened in Red Light District. It can happen again.

How about putting him on trail like they did in Syphon filter 3.. In whish he tells his life story in the form of levels. (In one level you will be fighting Dr proton. Then you fight whatever enemy Duke Nukem 2 has. Followed by the events of Duke 3d. Time to kill etc.

I was really thinking of doing an episode much like Postal 2 where you start off in a jail cell, you have to break out, and you take the city one neighborhood at a time from alien gangs, clear the strongholds, and rid the city of the big alien gang leader at the end, in short term.

Duke should've learned something from that accident though... I don't think he would repeat that failure again!

Let's go in another direction... Now that we have one idea down, I got another project in mind. How many maps or episodes, have you downloaded or played on Duke, that relate to the genre of survival-horror? I'm talking like Duke Nukem meets Resident Evil here, or even Doom 3 for that matter, any spooky game. This would be where you have to act out a nightmare that Duke has one night, and you are fighting aliens in almost total darkness. Well, maybe that's a bit extreme, but at least to have a Doom 3-style episode for Duke may probably bring a whole new chapter to the game.

Altough not so original, it's going to be a new experience for Duke. Go for it.

Yeah, dark hallway, with maybe a small torch in the corner, then in a dark cubbyhole, an octabrain sneaks up on you, jumps out, and you won't even know that he's gnawing at you with those sawblade teeth of his.

Well, okay... How does this sound instead?

Now that I've been getting back into squad-based shooters, like Counter-Strike, COD Series, Quake 4, Halo 3, and the like, I thought that it would probably pay off if I made a Team DukeMatch mod where you could do some squad-based missions that would involve two squads of four people on a team (assuming that the DukeMatch participant limit in total is 8). One group would be on defense, and one would be on offense. I'm trying to think of what types of missions would be good for this type of setup, I'm looking through Counter-Strike maps, as well as Duke maps, and wondering how to put two and two together.

Yeah, it's a TEAM DM, a la Counter-Strike. I mean, it shouldn't be too hard, one squad needs to keep the other from fulfilling each other's mission, and try to score that way. Not too sure if EDuke32 has any mods dedicated to this style of gameplay.

actually there is a DM mod/TC

The Premium Edition:

http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/p...sdn/prem16.zip

It would be better if you can start from this, if you take the permission from its creators

All right, I'll even see if I can join their team in developing a Duke 3D version of Counter-Strike, of course, it would have to have a new name, for obvious reason. Even with standard Duke 3D, I still could do similar missions where one group of four would have to defend female hostages from being blown up by detonation, while the other four try to get past you in pursuit of it.

Thats ... really strange lol. You got a good mission there haha... One side can be g*ys and the other side can be straights which are trying to get to the stripper club while the other team tries to stop them... (Of course, the team of g*ys wouldn't have much players *cough* *cough*)

Sigh... I was thinking of it being like a mission that CS gamers would always play, combining Bomb Defusing and Hostage Rescue all in one map. You'd have two sites where you find babes tied to cacoons with all sorts of barrels all over the room that would detonate if the terrorist group gains access to that area. All they would have to do is find some pipe bombs, swipe that access card, and bombs away, boom. The counter-terrorist team would have to protect this area, and stop the other group from gaining such access. It would work out at the end, believe you me.

My post was a joke Yeah go for it. I think your idea is good and original enough to be started.

Got it... BTW, I'm even wondering how possible it would be to even rebuild de_dust from CS into Build for Duke. That has to be the easiest one to rebuild than any of them.

I don't think any converter program would let you do it. You can convert it on your own though.

Thanks... After all these years, my forte in map building was in jousting and battle arenas mainly, especially since you'd have a number of ways to frag your opponents, and to make these into team efforts, I believe that this would make it even better. Just wish that Build wouldn't be as limited as it is, especially since the Quake engine was so much better for the types of maps I like to put together.

Re: Help me brainstorm a bit... Wondering about a nice themed episode
Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm probably thinking of even designing the BUILD/Duke 3D version of the map I plan to convert to CS: Source, that I originally made for Quake II. I got that map so much on my mind, that I may as well do a Team DukeMatch version for Duke before hand, and see how it'd play for Duke... It's a nuclear storage facility, believe it or not, and those maps should be up Duke's alley. Love to see explosions fly in this map. Hehe... Of course, with Build's limitations, I probably won't be able to make the Duke version nearly as fancy as the CS/Q2 version, tho.

EDIT: N/m, decided to take care of this on Shadow Warrior instead, put this thread to bed now...
